The Deshler Development Committee (DDC) was formed in late 2004 by John Sager with a focus on Deshler’s growth through business and industry, attraction, and resale of property at low costs to a business bringing in jobs.
In July of 2005, the Deshler Chamber donated $8,500 from their fundraisers to the committee. The DDC used that money to make more money by holding annual Texas Hold’em Tournaments, raffles and ticket drawings. Mr. Sager started working with a local law firm to help the DDC become a 501(c)(3) organization.
In July 2007, the DDC was classified as a 501(c)(3) “public charity” by the Internal Revenue Service. By late 2008, the DDC had raised enough funds to donate $15,000 to the razing of the old hotel on Deshler’s Main Street.
In March of 2010, the group widened its scope to be able to help with revitalization of Deshler in a manner that will benefit the community. Recently, the Deshler Development Committee helped community volunteers, known as “Deshler Pride,” work on renovating the Bartlow Township Historical Society Museum. The recent Open House was a success with positive responses from the community.
The Deshler Development Committee and Deshler Pride are working hard on revitalization projects to make a better community for all. The DDC is a paid membership, with board approval.
Deshler Pride is a volunteer group open to anyone wanting to help improve the Deshler community. Contact Pam Abrams with any questions/suggestions by calling 419-278-6276 or by email at abrams4ever@msn.com.
